About Us

In 1954, Albrecht Auction Service was started up in Pigeon, Michigan by the late Herb Albrecht, Sr. Pigeon is a farming community, and business consisted primarily of farm and estate auctions.

In 1967, Herb Albrecht, Jr. joined the auction company and began working with his father on a part-time basis. By 1973, Herb was working full-time. Upon taking over the company, Herb Jr. expanded the business from farm and estate auctions to include real estate, antiques, and business liquidations. At the same time, Herb joined the Michigan State Auctioneers Assoc. (MSAA) and the National Auctioneers Assoc. (NAA).

In 1975, Herb joined the inaugural class of the Certified Auctioneers Institute (CAI) at Indiana State University, eventually earning his CAI designation in 1978. Herb earned his real estate salesperson license in the 1970's and his real estate broker’s license in the 1980's.

In 1991, David Albrecht (Herb's son) graduated from World Wide College of Auctioneering in Iowa and became a 3rd Generation Auctioneer. David took the company into the 'computer age.' In 1996, he also attended Indiana State University, eventually earning his CAI designation in 1999. During this time, David saw the need for a website and 'www.albrechtauction.com' was created, making Albrecht Auction the first auction company in the area to have a website.

David earned his real estate salesperson license in 1994 and his real estate broker’s license in 2012.

On June 16, 1994, 'Albrecht's Country Auction Market' was opened as a venue to feature live consignment auctions in Vassar. Today, the 16,000 sq. ft. building is used as a bi-weekly online consignment auction facility.

In 2004, both Herb and David earned the Graduate Personal Property Appraiser (GPPA) designation offered through the Auction Marketing Institute (AMI).

In March 2008, ‘www.bidnow.us' was created, making Albrecht Auction the first Auction Company in the Area to offer Online Auction Services. What makes Albrecht Auction Service unique is its representation of items and the added responsibility of collecting payments from bidders and distributing the proceeds to consignors. Bidders may also preview the items in person before placing any bids.

In July 2011, Albrecht Auction Service moved its Main Office and opened its second location at 875 State Rd (M15) in Vassar, MI. Online consignment auctions were conducted every two weeks in Vassar, alternating between two locations where estate items, tools and shop equipment, guns and sporting goods, farm and construction equipment, RVs, ATVs, and more were consigned.   In November 2014, Albrecht Auction Service began to run weekly auctions every Monday, alternating back and forth between its two Vassar locations.    Albrecht Auction Service also conducts online and live farm land and hunting property auctions.

If you have farm or construction equipment, we can liquidate it for you, at your location, through our ‘Tri-State Farm and Construction Equipment Auction’. This consignment auction allows for you to keep your equipment on your property, eliminating hauling expense and saving you time.    As times and technologies continue to change, one thing will not: "We will treat our buyers and sellers with the integrity and professionalism that has kept us in business since 1954.”
